Unfortunately, not all unexpected dental emergencies happen while we are open. We are always here to help during office hours, but if we are closed, please contact us and leave a voicemail describing your issue. We will call you back and set up an appointment as soon as we can.
Life-Threatening Emergency
If something life-threatening occurs — or if it is outside the services we offer — please call 911 immediately or go to your nearest emergency room.
Tips For The Meantime
If your emergency is not life-threatening, here are some tips for what to do in a variety of the more common situations:
- Leave the affected area alone.
- Gather all pieces of chipped, broken, or damaged teeth to bring with you to the office.
- If a tooth is dislodged, hold it by the crown. If the knocked-out tooth is permanent, wash it gently under warm water, but be sure to preserve any attached tissue. Carefully place the tooth back in its socket to see if you can reinsert it until you arrive at our offices. If you cannot put it back in the socket, protect the tooth by placing it in a container filled with milk or saltwater. Do NOT use plain, salt-free water.
- If you are bleeding, bite down on clean cloth or gauze.
- Take an over-the-counter pain medication if needed.
- Help alleviate pain and swelling by gently placing a cold compress against your face in the affected area.
- Do not wait to contact us.
